This thread is my ongoing conversation with a Singsnap member who I will be referring to as "Jane".
She has asked that her real name and any of her user names not be revealed and I have agreed. Check back here to follow Jane's story and her experiences. Incorrect spelling and other typos have been corrected to make it easier for the general audience to read.
If you would like to be part of an interview and share your online karaoke experiences email me at shutyourpieholechance@gmail.com
Portions of our emails will be posted as they continue to come in and any portions not relevant to this topic will be omitted. All identifying information of any party is not nor will ever be included on a public forum and all parties have agreed to allow certain parts of conversations shared on this message board.
In our early emails, I asked Jane about how she first started using online karaoke sites and why.
Chance: "Jane, I am trying to get a better understanding of online karaoke sites and was hoping you could share with me a little of your experiences and help be better understand how this all works ok"?
Jane: "Hi Chance. Sure. I would like to ask that you not use my name at all though. I haven't done anything wrong, but wouldn't want to upset any of my friends or cause any problems".
Chance: "I figured you would say that. Lol No problem. I am not for or against any of these sites. I would though, like to get both positive and negative views on your overall experience if that's ok and I appreciate you helping me out.
Go ahead and tell me how it first started for you".
Jane: Ok. Well, about two years ago someone told me about Singsnap. He told me I could record there for free and then put the songs in public and have other people listen to them and then they could comment also. I registered but for a long time, couldn't figure out how to get my laptop to work with their program.
I tried several things including looking for help on their message boards and from other members but none of that really helped.
Then one day, I met this guy who was very nice and he explained things to me where it kinda of all finally made sense.
I recorded about 10 songs in the first 3 days because I was so excited about having it finally work after such a long time.
The guy that helped me sent my song to a few friends of his and all of the sudden I had a few comments and after that I was hooked".
A couple of months after that the guy that helped me? He started sending me more and more personal messages and we became very close in a short period of time. I was married, but my husband is in the military and hardly ever home. The attention was nice. thinking back on it now, I wish I had never gotten online and started this whole thing".
Chance: Not to jump to conclusions or anything, are you saying you got into an online relationship with this guy"?
