I am most certainly not a SingSnap mouthpiece and I do think a lot of what they have done sucks--particularly giving the toadying volunteers the ability to delete posts or songs. It's nice that you can speak your mind here or at Singsnapsucks or wherever.

It's nice that you can speak your mind here or at Singsnapsucks or wherever. I will say the one thing I thought it is very wrong to give all these members who volunteer on Singsnap administrative tools. You have staff and then 50 plus people who "work" on the site. To me that's a head trip. I would never feel comfortable knowing anyone can volunteer and then gain immediate access to tools that can be used against other members just like themselves. It almost pisses me off to think about it. I'm not quite understanding why staff doesn't do their own job. Why are they delegating a lot of their work to regular members? I am speaking to two former volunteers this week and hope to gain some more insight to the goings on. Really strange.

okay questioning guest, i just thought it was telling that you had no criticism of singsnap but were critical of those who are offended by their practices. it is good to know that you are not a supporter, and i would be more interested in hearing the events that have led you to be critical of their practices.
i agree with you chance, that delegating this much authority to volunteers to lord their power over paying members is just batshit oddness. what kind of business model is that and who runs a company like that? it is just a recipe for trouble, and trouble it has brewed. whether you will get any actual information from volunteers that is other than the company line is doubtful. they are kept on a pretty tight leash, and were all told, when singsnapsucks.com really started getting a lot of attention, to not post on the site. after that papal missive the activity from the volunteers came to pretty much a halt for awhile. it has since picked up, but primarily as a hatefest against diane, one of the members who was a former trevor acolyte, now fallen from grace. meaningful discussion of the actual issues are studiously avoided by the singsnap flamers, no matter how frequently the issues are reissued or how vigorously the members strive to bring the discussion back from personalities to issues.

it fascinates me that this site, which has been up less than two days, has already garnered three new members and 120 views. i am betting that it will catch heat from trevor inc. pretty soon. like cockroaches, they cannot stand the light...

While I am not interested in anyone picking on or singling out one person it would be interesting to know why all the interest in her. If Diane would like to speak out also, I would welcome her comments.

shout it from the rooftops Chance. as a happily expatriated former member i can endorse both of the sites you mentioned, and agree that they are both as stated. singshare is a wonderful alternative to singsnap and retains much of the spirit of cordiality that singsnap embodied just a couple of years ago, yet squandered through inept administrators and gestapoesque (sp) forum moderators. singshare has forums which are left to the judgement of the adult members, and the conversations i have seen or been party to have always been cordial and open ended. i do not agree with bruce politically, but he has a fine site there and a light touch. it is just as private a site as is singsnap, but has none of the draconian flavor. Tomorrow I will be spending a little time on Singshare. I will ask Bruce if he would like to make a comment regarding Singshare and perhaps tell us a little about it. I would love a statement from him regarding his time on Singsnap also.

also questioning guest, let us put the shoe on the other foot. singsnapsucks.com is a private site and it states clearly on the title page the purpose of the site is for critics of singsnap to have a site where they can express their criticism in an atmosphere free of the abuses meted out to members who attempt to post such views on singsnap. now, i am going to go out on a limb and guess that you have at least lurked that site. do the staff and membership of singsnap honor the declared intent of that PRIVATE site? of course they do not, but come in consistently to criticize and flame those who post views critical of trevor, connie, annie, and singsnap policy. i did notice that you did not declare that activity to be off limits when you made your careful disclaimer of not being a singsnap sycophant. it seems that the only critical light that shines is on those who speak against the treatment they have seen or personally received via singsnap. "Singsnapsucks was created specifically as a place for users to vent frustrations at Singsnap and the powers behind it with anonymity and without fear of being "forum-jumped" by the site's legions of sycophants just because you want to discuss something negative. Here, you can speak your mind about the things they don't want you to talk about on Singsnap." - declaration of intent from the singsnapsucks.com home page From an outsider looking in, the very first time I landed on the Singsnap Sucks site, I was amused and instantly pulled in. I read the front page top to bottom and floated around checking out the rest of the site. I give a good deal of credit to the person who created the site. It was clever and expertly done. It shows that an intelligent person can only be pushed so far before speaking out and standing up for what they believe in. There shouldn't be any place online or off that intimidates it's customers into submission. While Singsnap Sucks appears at first to be a site created out of frustration and anger, it is really much more then that. The site as a whole was well made and seems to attract folks that want to tell it like it is. Worth the visit and worth reading!

The latest report is that Trevor et al have decided to eliminate blue members, and allow only a temporary "trial" period for people to use the service and decide if they either want to become paying gold members or leave. Obviously in the singsnap "family" the blues have been discovered to be the red headed bastard stepchildren. I saw it coming though, I prophesied the cornholing would expand exponentially, and so it has.

I just got back from reading the thread and really want to go into the archives and find some very early posts about the blue memberships. I think they should be posted publicly. If anyone can dig them up faster then me, please post anything you would like to contribute here. Much thanks! Thank you also Pamplemus. I'm inclined to agree that you may be right. After reading the thread and then posts from members, I think the free memberships are being fazed out.

If history is any guide, any evidences of trevor's prior promises regarding the security of blue members have been erased from the site. If you find any they will be poopooed or explained away or rationalized "in light of recent economic conditions". Trevor has yet to make a promise he couldn't break, and his ethics are as full and luxurious as is his pompadour. You are also likely to find that this latest twist is perfectly acceptable with the staff and volunteers and will not bother a single one of them at all.

Chance, I have not heard you mention The Karaoke Channel. I have recorded there and found their mixer to be superior to MySpace Karaoke and SingSnap. Perhaps you could give your take on the place.

Something that stood out to me above anything else was an enourmous backup of volunteers and staff agreeing and bowing like the Japanese. What's up with that? It seemed like I was on another planet.

Yes! Just saw that one today, but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I didn't realize there were a few to choose from. I really do want to take a look at the more successful sites. I'll pop in there tomorrow ;D Wonder if I can locate another happy couple having an affair there also
